Treating a cold sore does not have to be difficult or expensive. You can do it effectively and economically using these home remedies.

You can use either internal or external remedies for treating cold sores. Your best outcome can be achieved by combining both types of remedies at the same time.

If you do, you will be amazed how quickly your outbreaks will disappear using these simple remedies.

A. EXTERNAL TREATMENTS.

Because these sores always appear on the surface, topical remedies are the most popular. Here are some proven and powerful external remedies for treating your cold sores.

1. ICE. If your outbreak is in its early stages, ice works wonders. Ice stops discomfort and swelling. And it discourages the herpes virus from replicating.

Ice will slow down (and sometimes completely stop) your outbreak if applied at the first itching or tingling sign.

2. GARLIC OIL. Use fresh crushed or cut garlic for optimal results. Start applying it as soon as you feel a sore coming on.

Garlic is very anti-virus and has the amazing ability to go right through the skin to the infection. If you do not like the smell of garlic, use oregano or mint oil instead.

3. HEAT. Once your cold sores blossom, stop the ice and use hot, moist tea bags. You are now in the healing stage. Ice slows healing, heat speeds it up.

Tea has great healing properties. Any tea will do, but mint tea is preferred. Use only hot water for warming up the tea bags. Never heat a tea bag directly in a microwave. The radiation ruins much of the benefits of tea.

4. PEROXIDE. You probably already know to continuously cleanse your cold sores. Alcohol soaked tissues are commonly used and work well.

I prefer hydrogen peroxide. It works as well as alcohol for cleansing a wound, but is also rich in oxygen molecules, which will boost your healing speed even more.

B. INTERNAL TREATMENTS.

Internally treating a cold sore will greatly boost the results of any external treatment. It is the only way of actually preventing future attacks.

Here are the two main internal methods of successfully treating cold sores.

1. LYSINE. Lysine stops the virus from getting the protein (arginine) that it needs to build new virus particles. When you accomplish this, you have just slowed down – or prevented – another outbreak.

Lysine must get into the cells for treating a cold sore. The only way for this to happen is to take in lysine orally – not using it topically on the outbreak as some companies claim.

Lysine is rich in dairy products and fish, but it is difficult to get the measured high amounts you need from food alone.

Lysine capsules are much more convenient when you need large dosages. They are cheap and easy to find. Commonly, folks take about 3000 milligrams daily during active cold sores.

2. VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS. If you get a lot of cold sores, you should be taking a good quality vitamin supplement. This is an outstanding way of treating cold sores.

Vitamins A, D and E are essential for healthy eyes and skin – and fast cell and skin repair. Vitamins B and C are the stress vitamins. They protect you from physical effects of stress.

Minerals zinc and calcium are powerful medicine against cold sores. Zinc is a well proven healing and protective mineral. You need 30 milligrams per day.

Calcium is the premier mineral for treating a cold sore. It helps keep your body in a healthy alkaline condition. This is so critical for your health your body will take it from your bones if your intake is deficient.

There you have it.

You do not need expensive store-bought ways of treating a cold sore, just some good home remedies that have proven themselves over many years.

Treating a cold sore and eliminating it quickly is as easy as giving these cold sore remedies a try.

Are you currently treating a cold sore? Using the right treatment at the correct time can save you a lot of grief. In this article we cover the best way of treating a cold sore at all three primary stages.
Cold sores interrupt your life in a big way. Having and treating a cold sore is no fun. And often these sores will last three to four weeks.
Treating a cold sore correctly can shorten the suffering time by 50% or more. That definitely is worth your effort and time.
There are several distinct stages of cold sores but they all fall within these three primary stages for treatment purposes.
Let’s take a look.
EARLY WARNING OF YOUR COLD SORES.
One of the bad things about the herpes simplex virus is that it lives and does its damage in your nerves. That is why cold sores are so painful.
Usually the herpes virus is asleep in the root cells of your facial nerves. When it becomes active, the virus must travel up that nerve to the surface for replication.
Yes – you can actually feel this virus movement.
It will cause a tingling or itching sensation at the surface target area. Your oral herpes outbreak is now only several hours to a couple days away.
The minute you feel this warning sign, get something cold on it. Ice or a cold can will work. Keep treating a cold sore with this method as often as possible.
This will slow down – or even stop – many outbreaks.
Also, this would be the perfect time to start taking supplements of the amino acid lysine. Normally a safe dosage during an outbreak is 2000 to 4000 milligrams.
COLD SORE DEVELOPMENT STAGE.
You know the herpes virus has reached the surface and entered the cells there when you see the telltale swelling and painful pimple-like bumps.
The creation of new virus causes the cells to expand – and eventually burst.
Ice is still a very good way of treating a cold sore at this stage. It reduces pain and swelling to some degree. Also, you may wish to use your usual pain and fever reducing medicine.
Better than common ice, try wetting some tea bags and freezing them. Using these in place of ice will supply the area with healing nutrients found in tea.
Putting garlic oil on the area is also an excellent way of treating a cold sore now. Garlic has the unique ability to travel right through the skin to the infection.
Use fresh cut or crushed garlic cloves for optimum results.
THE LONG HEALING JOURNEY OF COLD SORES.
Once the cells are full of new herpes virus, they burst open. The virus is still active but will not do much more damage. You are now in the healing stage which may take up to two weeks.
Stop using ice at this point.
It may feel good but it drives away healing blood. Use warm compresses now to bring more blood to the area and greatly speed healing.
The best way to apply heat is to use tea bags warmed up in hot water. Do not use a microwave to heat the tea bag directly. Microwave radiation will reduce its healing nutrients.
You should also continue treating a cold sore with garlic and lysine as mentioned previously. And you should be cleansing the wound with peroxide as often as possible.
For the cleansing process, use cotton balls or paper towels – then throw away.
CAUTION PLEASE.
The herpes simplex virus is extremely contagious. It is primarily passed on through touch or kissing. Treating a cold sore carelessly can spread it to other spots on your face or body.
Remember – when you create a new infection site, it will be a lifetime site for additional cold sores. Do not touch your sores with your bare fingers – wash your hands as much as possible.
Also, if your sores are very painful, you can use pain-relief numbing agents such as lidocaine or benzocaine. Store bought cold sore treatment salves often offer this benefit.
Treating a cold sore quickly and correctly is not difficult as you now know. The best part is getting rid of your cold sore fast and getting back your social life.
But, it is very important to prevent further difficulties by continually cleansing the sore and your hands while treating a cold sore.

Treating a cold sore is not a pleasant experience. They are painful, embarrassing, and generally quite a hassle. And they always seem to come at the worst possible time.
One good thing about cold sores – they occur on the surface of your skin where you can easily take care of them. If they were an internal sore, like some diseases, they could be life threatening.
Treating a cold sore successfully means you must adjust the treatment based on the stage of your outbreak.
1. The first symptom is the itching stage. This tingling sensation indicates the movement of the herpes virus to the surface to replicate. This virus enters thousands of nerve cells, each one becoming a virus factory.
At this stage you should put something cold on the area. Ice cubes in a plastic bag work well. You can also use a can of soda. Cold really discourages the virus and can cause it to give up before it actually creates the sore.
2. If the virus enters the cells, hard little red bumps and swelling of the area occur. Applying ice for 15 minutes at a time can still work wonders at this stage. Treating a cold sore like this can slow down the virus and possibly stop it.
3. Now the sore appears as an open, weeping wound. This is the result of many cells being destroyed by the herpes virus. Now begins the healing period of your cold sore.
Ice will still provide great comfort, and reduce swelling. But, unfortunately, it slows down the healing process by driving blood away from the area.
During the open wound stage, treating a cold sore includes keeping it as sterile as possible by cleaning with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide often.
One very popular treatment, for this stage, is a product called Campho-Phenique. It numbs the sore for more comfort, and it combats infections.
4. Treating a cold sore, during all the healing period, should include applying heat. This will bring additional blood to the area for very fast healing results.
Continue to keep the area sterile. Also, continue applying the comfort treatment (numbing agent) of your choice. Keep in mind that most all drug store cold sore treatments are for comfort and have not proven to speed healing.
HOW TO APPLY HEAT. To apply healing warmth, you can use a washcloth or paper towel dipped in hot water. You also can dampen the washcloth and warm up in your microwave. Just be careful not to burn your skin. Such a trauma to the skin could create a new sore.
You might want to try treating a cold sore by applying a warm, wet tea bag. You get the benefit of healing warmth to shorten the outbreak duration.
You also will find the tea plant has ingredients especially good for quickly healing cold sores.
PLEASE USE CAUTION. Cold sores, which are another name for oral herpes, are extremely contagious. You can easily infect others or create new areas of infection on yourself.
Cold sores can easily be spread to other areas of your body including your fingertips. Anywhere the herpes virus can get through the skin will be a new cold sore trouble area. Especially dangerous is getting the virus in your eyes. This really happens, and it can cause damage to the cornea.
While treating a cold sore, try not to contaminate your fingers by touching the area. Always clean your hands thoroughly after treatment. Use cotton balls, swabs, or tissues to apply any liquids and for cleansing the sore. Use a hand sanitizing gel too.
Remember, apply cold when the sore is forming, and warmth when it is healing. Keep it clean and keep from touching the area with your bare fingers while treating a cold sore.

Cold sores commonly also known as fever blisters, are clusters of small blisters around lip and outer edge of the mouth. They usually begin with a tingling that lasts for a few hours and then turn into blisters that eventually erupt. Cold sores can last up to 14 days without any treatment. The skin around the blisters is often inflamed. Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). Once contracted with this type of virus, this virus will remains hidden in our bodies forever in a dormant state until it’s triggered to become active and then cause a cold sore.

Cold Sore attacks vary; some people get them very regularly but others may not. If you have a cold sore, it’s very easy to infect another person with HSV-1. Herpes simplex virus is extremely contagious when fever blisters are present, and the virus usually spread by kissing and by skin to skin contact. You should avoid kissing. To avoid infected by this virus, you should wash your hand regularly especially after contact with the sore.

Most people simply have to wait till the cold sore heals of its own. But why wait till the sore disappears and suffer with full of painfulness that causes by cold sore when you can use certain cold sore treatment to cut down the pain?

Lysine can speed up the overall healing time by several days. It is used to make protein which helps boost the body’s immune system. The body cannot make lysine so we must get it from supplements or foods.

Tea contains a natural form of ingredient called tannic acid which is believed to help control the cold sore outbreak. Tea tree oil can be applied to the blister which should heal the sore within a few days.

Stress, menstruation, lack of sleep and poor diet can cause a cold sore. Stress can weaken your immune system and allowing the virus to resurface. Your immune system can be boosted by multivitamin supplements. You should increase your diet to include more fresh vegetable and fruit, take regular exercise and get enough of sleep to reduce your stress in order to prevent cold sore.

It can be easy to feel like the whole world is against you when it comes to having a cold sore even though you are certainly not alone. Treating a cold sore can be relatively easy if you know the procedures to take. Again, the Internet can be such a reliable source of yours. In there you will find a variety of information that can help you out. Here are some helpful tips in treating these sores and gaining some much needed relief.

Getting to Know the Symptoms of Cold Sores

It is important that you get to associate the symptoms with the possibility of the occurrence of cold sores. Prior to their appearance, you can feel some burning and itching sensations on the area where the outbreak will surface. Other symptoms that come along with the viral infection include swollen glands, mouth sores and gum sores, fever, and unexplained fatigue. Take note that in a matter of seven up to ten days, these symptoms may alleviate but unluckily, it doesn’t mean that the virus has also disappeared.

The Modern and Conventional Ways of Treatment

There are a number of topical creams and ointments that you can use. They are mostly over the counter medicines. Another solution is the use of the anti-viral medicine like famciclovir or acyclovir. Other alternative tips on the treatment are as follows:

Take in foods which are high in lysine. One good source of which is the cheese.

Don’t touch the cold sores or else you can infect other areas of the skin.

Apply ice on the affected area. It can make the blisters smaller or obstruct them from coming out. You can also apply some hot compress to lessen the pain.

Disinfect your own toothbrush. Replace it as well after the end of the cold sore outbreak.

Use Castor Oil, Saint John’s Wart Oil, or Witch Hazel Oil.

Pump your system with vitamins C, A, B complex, zinc, and iron.

Apply the warm tea bag on the cold sores. The herbs within can shorten the length of the pain and then reduce the pain.

Use the cornstarch paste or aloe dissolved in water.

There you go with the long list of options when treating a cold sore. Either go for the modern medicine way or stick with the traditional home remedies. It’s clearly up to you. What matters is that you concert your time and effort to cure yourself before everything is too late. Never allow the cold sores to overcome you. You should learn to overcome them. After all, you have all the treatment options within your reach.

Cold sores are also commonly called as fever blisters and extremely contagious especially in the lesion phase. They are caused by herpes simplex virus. Once you infected, the viruses will remain in your body forever. Cold sores will usually heal in about one week. But if they cause you embarrassment or pain, they can be treated to reduce the pain.

They are small, painful, fluid-filled blisters that appear around the mouth or nose. The virus lies dormant in the body and is reawakened by several factors such as too much exposure to sun, stress, lack of sleep and etc.

There are some commonly known simple tips of treating a cold sore. Tea contains tannic acid. Placing a tea bag on affected area during the tingle stage can possibly help to minimize the extent to which the lesion will grow.

Tea tree oil has been effective for some sufferers. Despite how intensely itchy the tingle stage of the cold sores can be, avoiding the urge to itch will minimize it. Healthy diet is also one of the ways to get rid of cold sores. Increase foods that have high quantities of antioxidants. Fruits and vegetables are excellent choices. Research has shown that foods high in arginine aid the development and reproduction of cold sores and foods high in lysine helps to inhibit the herpes virus.

Avoid foods that contain high arginine, including most chocolate, grains, nuts and legumes. Reduce caffeine intake. Instead, complex carbohydrates intake should be increased to treat it. Outbreaks are most commonly brought on by large amounts of stress. An outbreak is very irritating. Be sure to get enough rest to reduce the stress.

There is no permanent cure for cold sore. So by understanding these natural remedies is important to get relief from cold sore.

Cold Sores are like allergies, you may face it more frequent at certain stage of life, and you may also be free of outbreak for years. Cold sores are a common disease that has affected around 80 to 90 percent of the American population. Herpes is one of the most common viral infections in the world. The medical name for the specific virus that causes cold sores is herpes simplex.

Herpes simplex virus is spread from person to person by direct skin-to-skin contact. The highest risk for spreading the virus is the time period beginning with the appearance of blisters and ending with scab formation. Herpes viruses can be transmitted to others by way of an intermediary object such as cup, eating utensil, toothbrush, napkins or even a face towel.

Cold sore treatment may include topical creams or ointments or sometimes antiviral medicines (such as acyclovir). Treatment may reduce the duration of the cold sores by only 1 to 2 days, but it can help to soothe the painful and uncomfortable blisters.

Tea tree oil has been effective for some cold sore sufferers. Despite how intensely itchy the first stage of the cold sore can be, avoiding the urge to itch will minimize the cold sore and prevent it from spreading. Tea tree oil, or oil from a vitamin A or vitamin C capsule, are other methods of reduce inflammation slightly.

Try to eat healthily. Vegetables and fruit are good for you! Lots of different things can bring on the cold sore. Some of the common ones are stress, tiredness, wind and sunlight. Loss of appetite and of smell is the main features of a cold which makes life miserable. It is recommended if you do have an outbreak to keep the blister clean to avoid additional infection

Natural remedies include aloe or lemon balm applied to the affected area multiple times a day. You can also use petroleum jelly to keep dryness and cracking to a minimum. Natural cold sore treatment seems to have answers to cure cold sores but as there have not been conclusive medical researches done in this area, only those who have benefited personally can testify of their effectiveness.

Are you searching for a good cold sore treatment? Thousands of cold sore folks like you and I are every day.
Well, do not spend your hard-earned money before you read about this powerful cold sore treatment 3-step plan. It is a home remedy that provides amazing relief, without having to buy some “secret” formula.
There are a lot of over-the-counter and prescription cold sore treatment products that claim to be the latest and greatest miracle. You buy one and try it, and, again, you are disappointed.
Truth is, most cold sore treatment products you find in stores are mainly comfort remedies. Nothing wrong with that – doing whatever you can to reduce the pain and discomfort while the cold sore is healing.
And even the prescription drugs that you read about in the papers have a very poor track record for reducing the length of the cold sore event. Studies show that the best of these may reduce the cold sore period by a few days. No big deal when they last three to four weeks.
If you could find a cold sore treatment plan that would give you maximum comfort, while cutting the healing time by a week or more – would that not be great?
You can do that right now.
But, quickly, let us first look at what we are dealing with.
The root cause of cold sores, fever blisters, or oral herpes is an infestation of the herpes simplex virus. This parasite virus lives in your nerve cells and is usually dormant. For cold sores, which occur mainly on the face, the herpes virus hides in the nerve ganglia under or behind your ear on the same side as your cold sore outbreak.
When this virus senses a weakness in your immune system, it will grab the opportunity to replicate. To do so, the cold sore virus will travel to the end of the nerve where it is living – ending up on the surface of your lip or nose. During the replication process, a hoard of new herpes virus is created. Millions of your cells are destroyed in this process, creating an open wound right on the end of a nerve. Ouch!
Now you need an effective cold sore treatment.
If you are vigilant, you can stop the replication process, wipe out millions of viruses, and send the remaining virus back into hibernation. And it is amazing how quickly your cold sore will heal once you have removed the cold sore virus from the area.
What cold sore treatment can do this?
Plain ice or another cold object, such as a can of soda.
Seems too simple, right?
But ice is a very good cold sore treatment. It reduces swelling, heat and pain and chases the cold sore virus away. Ice, or similar, is free and available just about anywhere you might be when you suddenly feel a cold sore coming on. Put the ice in a plastic bag for less mess.
But, you must act quickly, at the first inkling of a cold sore. Even a couple hours delay can mean you will get a full-blown cold sore that could last 3 weeks or more.
Yes, as soon as you can, apply some cold object to it.
No matter how far along your cold sore, ice is a very good cold sore treatment. It can reduce the cold sore event by 35% or more. It will also work with, and boost, any other treatment, whether oral or topical.
A great virus killer for surface use is alcohol. It can sting, if you have not numbed it with ice first, but it is the gold standard for keeping a wound clean and reducing infections. Use a cotton ball or tissue to apply it. You do not want to contaminate your fingers and spread it to someone else or to another location on yourself.
To speed healing even faster, try using some fresh sap from the Aloe Vera plant leaf. Just break off an inch or so of a leaf and apply the sap to the wound. Be sure to use the alcohol, or some other germ killer first. Aloe can heal right over an infection.
Also, do not waste your time on bottled Aloe Vera. It just does not have the healing power. Get a live plant for home – they are available nearly anywhere. Every household should have one. Aloe Vera is useful for a great many things besides a cold sore treatment.
There you have it – one of my favorite cold sore treatment plans in a nutshell. It is a powerful plan you can use right this minute to heal that cold sore.
Yes, it is quite simple but it is a well proven and powerful three-step cold sore treatment.

Thank you for visiting and choosing to read this article, it is a pleasure for me to provide you excellent written materials.

Cold sores are a lot more common than you think. Cold sores, also called fever blisters are primarily caused by the herpes simplex virus and are highly contagious. When the immune system is compromised, the body becomes an easy attack of this virus. Once you infected, then it remains in the body for life as at now there is no permanent cure for it.

Cold sores are highly contagious. This means no kissing or sharing things like eating utensils, cups or towels and such like. Also, remember if you touch the sore with your hand, to ensure you wash them before touching the skin of anyone else.

There are several natural home remedies for cold sores that have been known to work quite well. Ice is one of the most well known home remedies for cold sores in preventing a breakout occurrence if caught quickly enough. You will be surprised that this simple home remedy for cold sores offers much pain relief.

Applying tea bags on your cold sores is another effective home remedies for cold sores. This is because of the tannin properties found in tea. As tea contains tannic acid which is antiviral, the herpes simplex virus is suppressed. One can also consider pressing a warm tea bag on the blisters for approximately 30 minutes.

Certain foods can prolong the occurrence of cold sores, while some can trigger their recurrence. Limit your consumption of sugar, caffeine, those high in salt content, soft drinks, and citrus fruits as they can likely trigger an outbreak. Limit your intake of arginine-rich foods such as peanuts, chocolate, grains and wheat products as virus tend to feed on arginine. Changing your diet and taking vitamin supplements are two of the best home remedies for cold sores.

Treating a cold sore quickly and correctly is essential to fast, permanent relief. By the time you finish reading this article, you will discover some clear, powerful and extremely effective ways for treating a cold sore.
Treating a cold sore is not a pleasant experience. They are painful, embarrassing, and generally quite a hassle. And they always seem to come at the worst possible time.
Unlike many diseases that do their damage internally, cold sores only occur on the surface. Because of this, they can be easily cured. If this same damage occurred internally, they could be a threat to your life.
Treating a cold sore successfully means you must adjust the treatment based on the stage of your symptoms.
1. The first symptom is the itching stage. This tingling sensation indicates the movement of the herpes virus to the surface to replicate. This virus enters thousands of nerve cells, each one becoming a virus factory.
At this stage you should put something cold on the area. Ice cubes in a plastic bag work very well. Cold really discourages the virus and can cause it to give up before it actually creates the sore.
2. If you miss the tingling stage, the virus will enter the cells. This infection causes swelling. Application of ice is still the treatment of choice. This reduces swelling, reduces the heat in the area, and does give a lot of comfort.
3. If you did not stop the virus before this point, the sore will now break open. This is cause by the destruction of thousands of adjacent nerve cells. The sore will be weeping a fluid that is teaming with new virus. From now on, your sore is in the healing phase.
Ice can continue to give you much comfort and swelling reduction. However, ice will also slow down healing because it drives blood away from the damaged area.
Treating a cold sore at this stage requires you to cleanse the wound as often as possible with alcohol or peroxide. I prefer peroxide because it also adds some extra healing oxygen to the sore.
Instead of ice for comfort now, use products that have a nerve-deadening ingredient. One of the oldest, time-proven products on the market is Campho-Phenique. They now offer several different formulas to choose from. A great product.
4. Treating a cold sore during the entire healing period calls for application of a warm compress of some sort. Applying warm, moist heat greatly shortens healing time since it brings extra blood and oxygen to the wound.
Keep cleansing the area, even when scabbed over. Keep using the Campho-Phenique or whatever treatment you choose. Drug store cold sore treatments are great for comfort. But they generally will not shorten the duration by any measurable degree.
APPLYING WARMTH. There are several ways to keep the sore warm. One way that works very well is using a damp, warm washcloth. This can be heated up in the microwave. Be cautious not to burn yourself.
You might want to try treating a cold sore by applying a warm, wet tea bag. You get the benefit of healing warmth to shorten the cold sore duration. You also will find the tea plant has ingredients especially good for quickly healing cold sores.
PLEASE USE CAUTION. Cold sores, which are another name for oral herpes, are extremely contagious. You can easily infect others or create new areas of infection anywhere on yourself.
Each cold sore family creates cold sores in the same area. If you have a sore on your nose, and one on your lip, these are caused by two separate infections.
The most troublesome and dangerous is spreading it to your eyes. This can cause permanent vision loss.
When treating your outbreak, be careful not to touch the sore with your fingers. Use cotton balls or tissues to cleanse and apply any treatment. Always wash your hands after working on the sore. Hand sanitizing gel is great insurance against spreading cold sores.
Remember, apply cold when the your sore is forming, and warmth when it is healing. Keep it clean and keep from touching the area with your bare fingers. Use every caution while treating a cold sore.
