if i feel an outbreak coming on, what can i do to stop it when it’s little?

Id ice it for 30 minutes straight to start off. This will keep the swelling, and redness down and stop the growth. If you want try to ice it for even longer then that. If you check out my website (link on the sidebar) I have numerous home remedies and treatment options available for you.
